Protas achieves ISO 27001 accreditation for information security
At Protas, information processing is fundamental to our success. The protection and security of that information, whether relating to our employees, partners or trial participants, is of the utmost priority.
We are therefore thrilled to have achieved the UKAS accredited ISO 27001 certification, the international standard for information security management systems (ISMS), as a demonstration of our comprehensive and systematic approach to information security.
Achieving ISO 27001 accreditation involves rigorous assessment of an organisation’s ISMS by an independent UKAS registered certification body, which, in Protas’ case, was PQAL.
As well as showing that Protas has met the requirements of the world’s best-known standard for ISMS, it provides a framework for continual improvement so that we maintain these high standards.
Protas Chief Executive Prof Sir Martin Landray said: “Our mission at Protas is to tackle the growing burden of common diseases around the world through innovative clinical trials.
“We are responsible for processing complex data across a wide range of stakeholders, and we take our obligations to protect that information very seriously.
“Achieving ISO 27001 is proof of our commitment to the highest standards of information security, and a reflection of our team’s expertise.”
The benefits to ISO 27001
Organisations that achieve IS0 27001 enjoy a number of benefits, including continual improvement of information security, cost saving and competitive advantage.
For our partners and collaborators, as well as for participants in our trials, ISO 27001 accreditation is evidence that Protas takes information security seriously and has implemented a robust ISMS that protects their information.
Additionally, it ensures that we meet regulatory and legal requirements related to information security and demonstrate ongoing commitment to best practices in information security management.
Scott Wilson, Head of Information Security at Protas, said: “This accreditation shows to our partners and collaborators that we are secure, trustworthy and knowledgeable.
“We have provided the resources to develop, implement and continually improve Protas’ information security management and posture, and we will continue to provide those resources to meet future information security needs as we grow.”
ISO 27001 is the latest step for Protas’ ISMS, having already achieved the UK government-backed Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus certifications.
