Video: Transform health research by democratising clinical trials
Prof Sir Martin Landray joins Milken Institute Global Conference to explore how democratic clinical trials will revolutionise health research.
This May, Protas Chief Executive Prof Sir Martin Landray joined fellow experts in clinical trials (pictured) at Milken Institute’s 27th annual conference, Los Angeles, US, to explore how a revolution in health research is possible only if clinical trials become more community focused.
The panel also featured Silas Buchanan, CEO of OurHealthyCommunity, Susan Monarez, Deputy Director of Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health, Fabian Sandoval, President and CEO of Emerson Clinical Research Institute, and Andrew Trister, Chief Medical and Scientific Officer of Verily Life Sciences. The panel was moderated by Michelle McMurray-Heath, Founder and CEO of Biotechquity Clinical.
At the crux of the discussion was the shared belief that global clinical research needs to be redesigned: to build trust, with patients and trial participants in mind, in order to maximise the likelihood of benefitting people and communities.
New players in the clinical trials space, including Protas, are offering new ways to bring clinical research closer to the communities they serve, including making things much easier for the public and clinicians to take part in research.
Prof Sir Martin Landray comments: “Anybody can design a trial that is infeasible. And frequently people do exactly that. The trick is to design a trial that is feasible — and feasible at all levels.
“What that really means is lifting the complexity away from the front line, and that’s where good design and sound use of technology can suddenly help you.”
